A decade later, he won the second-tier WRC title.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Stan Sport is the only place to watch the 2022 FIA World Rally Championship.<\/strong><\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/9.nine.com.au\/DnH61N\"><em><strong>All the action streaming ad-free, live and on demand<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was that success that earned him a seat with the factory Toyota team and an opportunity at the big time \u2013 rallying&#x27;s equivalent of Formula 1.<\/p>\n<p>The Finnish driver can already lay claim to being the youngest winner of a World Rally Championship event, winning Rally Estonia at just 20 years and 290 days.<\/p>\n<p>Now, in just his third full season at the top level, Rovanpera could wrap up the title at the forthcoming Rally New Zealand on September 29-October 2.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"d7743353-b6b8-4c21-b030-702fe4f39e7a\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/d7743353-b6b8-4c21-b030-702fe4f39e7a\" alt=\"\" data-width=\"3200\" data-height=\"2133\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Rovanpera has been a force to be reckoned with this year, winning five of the first seven rallies for Toyota.<\/p>\n<p>With three rounds remaining, it could all be wrapped up soon with a mathematical shot at taking the crown in Auckland.<\/p>\n<p>If Rovanpera outscores primary title rival Ott Tanak by eight points, then the championship is over.<\/p>\n<p>Winning Rally New Zealand means Rovanpera would only have to have a margin of seven points, given any chance of a tie-breaker would fall the way of the youngster on a countback of wins.<\/p>\n<p>However, if he wins the rally and the power stage that awards bonus points, then the title is Rovanpera&#x27;s \u2013 without question.<\/p>\n<p>There are 107 possible outcomes, but the aforementioned three are the most straightforward.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"a3ccb7d4-71c8-487b-87ce-47d68b08a3f6\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/a3ccb7d4-71c8-487b-87ce-47d68b08a3f6\" alt=\"\" data-width=\"3200\" data-height=\"2133\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&quot;This season has been pretty good,&quot; Rovanpera told the Under The Helmet podcast.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;For sure, the beginning of the season was better than the last few rallies. I haven&#x27;t been thinking about it too much.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&quot;You always concentrate on the next rallies and the next races, so it&#x27;s better not to think too much about the old things and just focus on the next one.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Rovanpera is the son of Harri, who drove for the factory Seat, Peugeot, and Mitsubishi in the FIA World Rally Championship.<\/p>\n<p>Rovanpera Sr had to wait until his 45th outing to win his one and only rally, taking the 2001 Rally Sweden.<\/p>\n<p>The since-retired driver knows plenty about New Zealand, contesting the iconic event eight times and finishing on the podium in 2001 and 2002 for Peugeot.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"e19d4736-ad3f-4246-8d7f-7b8e96f5e28d\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/e19d4736-ad3f-4246-8d7f-7b8e96f5e28d\" alt=\"\" data-width=\"2238\" data-height=\"1492\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&quot;Mostly he has been telling me about the roads and the stages, that they are really nice,&quot; Rovanpera said of his father.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;A bit about his experiences and some memories from the rally and the country. I&#x27;ve heard a few stories.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;He has some good ones and not-so-good ones, but really good stories, for sure.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Winning the World Rally Championship seems an inevitability for Rovanpera.<\/p>\n<p>If he does claim the title, he&#x27;ll be the youngest by quite a large margin. The late Colin McRae won the 1995 title at 27 years old for Subaru.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHO ARE THE BIG NAMES IN RALLY NEW ZEALAND?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sebastien Ogier is arguably the most well-known name contesting Rally New Zealand. The eight-time champion will compete for Toyota alongside Rovanpera, Esapekka Lappi and Elfyn Evans.<\/p>\n<p>Locally, New Zealand fans will have Hayden Paddon and <a href=\"http:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/shane-van-gisbergen\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"Shane van Gisbergen\">Shane van Gisbergen<\/a> to cheer on in the second-tier WRC2 division.<\/p>\n<p>Ford will bring three drivers including Craig Breen, Gus Greensmith and Lorenzo Bertelli while Hyundai has Ott Tanak, Thierry Neuville and Oliver Solberg.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"80493e2a-736e-4327-adb7-396787dc9370\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/80493e2a-736e-4327-adb7-396787dc9370\" alt=\"\" data-width=\"1800\" data-height=\"1201\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>WHEN IS RALLY NEW ZEALAND?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rally New Zealand takes place across September 29-October 2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHERE ARE THE SPECIAL STAGES?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The rally is held in and around Auckland.
