Brisbane<\/a> captain\ufeff Dayne Zorko<\/a> has capped a turbulent 2022 campaign by re-signing with the Lions for the 2023 season.<\/p>\n

Zorko, who was a\ufeffn unrestricted free agent, played 22 games this year and is set to enter his 12th season with the Lions.<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old battled a pre-season ankle injury and shifted between the midfield, half-back and half-forward as he steered Brisbane to\ufeff its fourth finals series on the bounce.<\/p>\n

Zorko\ufeff's bumpy season took an ugly twist when he fired a personal sledge at Melbourne's Harrison Petty at the Gabba in round 23<\/a>, leaving the Demon in tears. Zorko was widely slammed for what he said, before apologising but claiming the sledge was not "unprovoked".<\/p>\n

Zorko retained his captaincy despite the controversy and, after inking a new deal, will again play a crucial role as the Lions chase their first premiership\ufeff since 2003.<\/p>\n

"The club has been building towards something really exciting the past few seasons and with that looking to continue next year, I really wanted to be a part of it," Zorko said.<\/p>\n

"Even though I am not getting any younger, I have been really enjoying my football as we have such a great group of players and people at the club.<\/p>\n

"I am extremely thankful for the Brisbane Lions to back me to go around again, and I look forward to joining the boys in making the club and all of our fans proud in 2023."<\/p>\n

Zorko averaged 20 disposals per game in 2022 and was perhaps at his best in round nine, registering 26 touches (11 contested) and two goals against Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.<\/p>\n

He's missed just 10 matches since his debut, won five best and fairests and earned one All-Australian blazer.<\/p>\n

"We are thrilled to have Dayne playing on again next year and are more than confident he will continue to play a valuable role on and off the field," said Brisbane footy boss Danny Daly.<\/p>\n

"From the day he joined the Brisbane Lions he has given his absolute all to the club and he continues to put in the work to become the best he can be.<\/p>\n

"He still offers plenty as a player, but as we look to bring in more young and exciting talent, the leadership and mentoring that Dayne can offer them is invaluable."<\/p>\n
