In the space of little more than a month, the All Blacks<\/a> have suffered two historic losses to visiting sides.<\/p>\n

First, it was Ireland<\/a> and now Argentina<\/a> has claimed an iconic first Test match win in New Zealand over the once world number one squad.<\/p>\n

The giant-killing Pumas delivered coach Michael Cheika<\/a> a 25-18 win in Christchurch in front of a sold-out crowd.<\/p>\n

In doing so, it marked the first time in 119 years that the All Blacks have lost three matches in a row on home soil.<\/p>\n

A small but rapturous group of Argentine spectators stayed on after the match to celebrate with the visitors after the win took them to the top of the Rugby Championship ladder.<\/p>\n

For Cheika, it's the first time he's beaten the All Blacks in New Zealand.<\/p>\n

"I don't want to sound corny, but if that's not what footy's about\u2026 it's with your mates, enjoying the game, the ups and the downs," said Cheika.<\/p>\n

"Those times, especially for some of those Argentinian boys, that's historic for them and I want them to enjoy being in the team and getting around playing teams like this.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"That's a great experience for them."<\/p>\n

After going into the halftime break down 15-12, the Sydney-sider gave his men an inspired speech in the changing room.<\/p>\n

In response, the Pumas crossed the line and converted a penalty kick to cement a seven point win.<\/p>\n

"I think they're guys that haven't won a lot of Rugby Championship games and maybe not a lot of self belief," said Cheika when asked of the mid-game rev-up.<\/p>\n

"You've got to bring the technical as well as that [emotional] part of the game to make them believe in themselves because that's a big part.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"You come here, it's going to be difficult and to thrive in a difficult time. Not to panic, not to worry about it. That's footy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"When it's bad, that's the time to step up and start playing because that's rugby."<\/p>\n

Cheika paid tribute to former New Zealand rugby league star turned coach David Kidwell, who joined Argentina as its assistant coach at the start of the year.<\/p>\n

"He's brought a different appeal, and even spiritually he's got a very strong M\u0101ori influence," Cheika explained.<\/p>\n

"He's brought a lot of that and introduced that to the boys and also about the tackling drills and the way we've worked.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We've still got heaps of improvement to do. I think we were a bit slow off the line sometimes and the All Blacks were really starting to come through us at some stages.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"They were collecting metres but we hung in there and we able to get some speed back.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I think towards the end of the game obviously the energy of 'We can win this thing now' got them getting off the line a bit more."<\/p>\n

Kidwell's appointment to the team comes just a year out from the Rugby World Cup.<\/p>\n

For Kidwell, it was a special win in his hometown of Christchurch.<\/p>\n

"I'm still Kiwi at heart and a M\u0101ori boy at heart, but I'm Argentina tonight," said the 2008 Rugby League World Cup winner.<\/p>\n

"It's pretty awesome. I'm very happy with the boys, the muchachos, they've worked hard. They're very coachable. Yeah, I think I'll go have a few lemonades tonight."<\/p>\n

The Pumas will face the All Blacks again on September 3 in Hamilton.<\/p>\n

While Argentina will celebrate for now, Cheika said they won't rest between rounds knowing New Zealand will come back strong.<\/p>\n

"What's going to be big for us is getting ready for next week because I imagine they're going to come back with every piece of artillery they have and we've got to work out a way to handle that and give something back," he said.<\/p>\n
