Former world No.1 Andy Murray is in doubt for the upcoming Australian Open<\/a> after testing positive for COVID-19.<\/p>\n

Multiple reports out of England say that Murray, who was set to fly to Melbourne on a chartered flight within the next 36 hours, will now be forced to remain in London.<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old is said to be currently isolating at home.<\/p>\n

It's understood the five-time Australian Open runner-up remains hopeful that he can still compete by travelling to Australia at a later date.<\/p>\n

This year's Australian Open tournament was pushed back by three weeks, with a delayed start date of February 8 due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n

The now-ranked world No.123 was handed a wildcard from Australian Open officials to feature in this year's tournament.<\/p>\n

His return to the tournament will come two years after he last played for Melbourne crowds in what he thought at the time would be his final professional tennis match<\/a> due to a hip injury. <\/p>\n

The three-time Grand Slam champion shortly after underwent a hip resurfacing surgery, which enabled him to make his return to top-level tennis. <\/p>\n

Australian Open organisers have chartered 15 flights, with around 1200 players, support staff and tennis officials arriving in Australia from today.<\/p>\n

Earlier today, controversial US tennis star Tennys Sandgren sent Australian Open officials into meltdown<\/a> after he was allowed onto a plane destined for Melbourne despite testing positive for COVID-19.<\/p>\n
