All available players will turn out for the Australian Open<\/a>, tournament director and Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley insists.<\/p>\n

Big-name American John Isner withdrew from the Open on Tuesday<\/a>, citing family reasons that seemed to relate to quarantine lockdowns for players.<\/p>\n

Roger Federer has withdrawn in the wake of knee surgery, the highest-profile absentee. Top players like Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams remain committed to the tournament, starting February 8 in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

"We're giving very tough conditions, obviously. We're doing that for a reason because our objective has always been a safe environment," Tiley told TODAY on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

"But our relationship and our communication with all the players, everyone's coming that can come. Those few that have pulled out have pulled out for injury-related reasons; Roger's just recovered from surgery, as an example, and they are few.<\/p>\n

"We will have those players that do test positive before they get on a flight. They will not be able to get on a flight, so therefore they'll have to pull out as well and we'll know that more in the next three days as we get the test results coming through.<\/p>\n

"They have to do this test 72 hours before they get on a flight and have to have all sorts of series of forms completed as well before they get on a flight. So, fair bit of logistics over the next three days to determine exactly who's here but we expect a full playing field."<\/p>\n

A group of top players – including Djokovic, Nadal and Williams – will reportedly<\/a> be able to complete their 14-day quarantine in an Adelaide hub capped at 50 people; among a total travelling contingent of about 1200.<\/p>\n

Other players and team members will stay in Melbourne and be stuck in their hotel rooms for 19 hours per day, with just five hours to practice and exercise.<\/p>\n

"This announcement for the top threes is a bit out of the blue, and it's weird, to put it mildly," world No.72 Jeremy Chardy told L'Equipe.<\/p>\n

"They will even be able to benefit from a gym at the hotel and will be able to do their exercises, which will not count towards the five-hour quota. Everyone can go out. They will almost be able to live normally."<\/p>\n

Tiley admitted of the conditions: "It's not the training regime that they would want to be used to."<\/p>\n

Making Australian Open preparations amid COVID-19 restrictions is proving extremely costly for Tennis Australia. Tiley has confirmed that costs directly related to quarantine and biosecurity measures will be in excess of $40 million.<\/p>\n
