There's been a devastating postscript to the game-winning heroics of Parramatta<\/a> bench player Ray Stone.<\/p>\n

Stone was the unlikely hero on Saturday night at AAMI Park when he scored a thrilling try in extra-time to beat Melbourne<\/a> in a round three upset.<\/p>\n

An Eels kick bounced off the goalposts and Stone was in the perfect position to collect the loose ball, sidestep defending fullback Jahrome Hughes, and win the game.<\/p>\n

But as he stepped around Hughes, Stone injured his knee.<\/p>\n

Parramatta has now sadly confirmed the bench forward ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, which will require surgery and has ended his 2022 season.<\/p>\n

"The Parramatta Eels will be supporting Ray and his family at this difficult time," a club statement said.<\/p>\n

Stone has played 31 games for the Eels since making his NRL debut in 2018.<\/p>\n

He will leave at the end of this season and head to the NRL's newest team, the Dolphins.<\/p>\n
