Manchester City<\/a> says it is "shocked and appalled" at abuse levelled at one of its players at a boxing bout on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

Phil Foden and his family were backstage at the the Amir Khan-Kell Brook fight at Manchester's AO Arena, with footage on social media showing an altercation between Foden's group and some hecklers.<\/p>\n

Foden's mother then emerges from a private box, and after exchanging words with one of the men, pushed him away. He then throws a punch at her before others become involved.<\/p>\n

"The club is aware of a video which has circulated on social media showing Phil Foden and his family being harassed and abused," Manchester City said in a statement.<\/p>\n

"We are shocked and appalled about the nature of the abuse and ensuing assault on one of Phil's family members. We will continue to give Phil and his family all the support and assistance they need."<\/p>\n

The BBC reports that Greater Manchester Police (GMP) say they have not received a report about the incident, and are making enquiries after viewing the footage.<\/p>\n

"GMP are aware of a video circulating on social media showing a disturbance at the AO arena last night (19 February 2022)," a statement reads.<\/p>\n

"We are conducting some further enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident."<\/p>\n

Twenty-one-year-old Foden was last season named the Premier League Young Player of the Season and in 2018 became the youngest ever player to receive a Premier League winners' medal.<\/p>\n
