Brisbane's city-wide lockdown has thrown the location of the fourth Test between Australia and India into further doubt with the visitors reluctant to play ball with the tighter bio-security measures likely to greet them in Queensland<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Indian side is nervous about Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk's reputation for moving quickly to tighten restrictions at the first hint of a COVID-19 outbreak.<\/p>\n

The tourists fear that the agreed biosecurity arrangements for the Gabba Test – which currently allow the players to mingle together in their hotel – will be made more robust by Queensland Health.<\/p>\n

The fact that the city of Brisbane will go into lockdown this weekend will only heighten those concerns.<\/p>\n

The Queensland government today reacted swiftly to a positive test for the more infectious UK variant of COVID-19 in a hotel quarantine worker.<\/p>\n

Palaszczuk's attempt to get straight on top of it comes the day after Cricket Australia's interim CEO Nick Hockley held talks with BCCI secretary Jay Shah to assure him the current deal would remain in place.<\/p>\n

The reports following that meeting have been positive but it's clearly a fluid situation with the Indian camp on tenterhooks, to the point where they sent a letter requiring further assurances from CA to prevent them from opting out of the Brisbane leg of the tour.<\/p>\n

"The BCCI's demand is simple," the Press Trust of India reported yesterday. <\/p>\n

"The players want to mingle with each other inside the hotel bio-bubble like they did in the IPL. They want to have their meals together inside the hotel and also have the team meetings together. That's not a big demand."<\/p>\n
