The English cricket team touring Sri Lanka are anxiously awaiting their results from secondary COVID-19 tests after all-rounder Moeen Ali was found to be positive.<\/p>\n

England were yesterday scheduled to have their first training session of the two-Test series, which is set to begin on January 14, but the players are instead stuck in their rooms.<\/p>\n

While the entire England touring party tested negative before flying to Sri Lanka, Ali returned a positive result upon landing in the subcontinental country.<\/p>\n

There is particular panic surrounding the test result of fast bowler Chris Woakes, who The Guardian has revealed had travelled from Birmingham to Heathrow in the same car as Ali.<\/p>\n

Woakes has therefore been forced into a week-long quarantine.<\/p>\n

Ali was yesterday driven to Galle, the venue of both Tests, to take up private accommodation.<\/p>\n

The England and Wales Cricket Board's chief medical officer, Nick Peirce, travelled to Galle in a separate car to ensure Ali was okay.<\/p>\n

Ali is asymptomatic and is due to emerge from isolation on January 13, one day before the first Test begins.<\/p>\n

That has put the off-spinner's involvement in the series in doubt, as Sri Lanka Cricket medical staff recommended players who tested positive to sit out for several weeks.<\/p>\n
