Karachi:\u00a0Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza has been left out of the team’s preliminary squad for the upcoming series against the West Indies while Shakib-ul-Hasan returns after serving his one-year suspension.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 37-year old pacer who is Bangladesh\u2019s most capped ODI player, captained his country in 88 ODIs before stepping down in March 2020 following a 3-0 home victory over Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

“It was a tough decision for us but we have to accept the reality and move ahead,” chief selector Minhajul Abedin said while announcing the 24-man squad.<\/p>\n

“It’s a new beginning, and whoever comes in his place, it’s an opportunity for him,” he added.<\/p>\n

Note, Windies are due to tour Bangladesh for three ODIs and two Tests and will arrive in Dhaka on January 10.<\/p>\n
