{"id":17810,"date":"2021-01-04T03:17:51","date_gmt":"2021-01-04T04:17:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=17810"},"modified":"2021-01-04T10:02:41","modified_gmt":"2021-01-04T10:02:41","slug":"jets-owners-sensationally-sent-packing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=17810","title":{"rendered":"Jets owners sensationally sent packing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/football\/football-australia-announces-separation-from-a-league-w-league-y-league\/565e06b1-e475-4f6b-bbbb-5d8124d72540\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"Football Australia and Australian Professional Leagues\">Football Australia and Australian Professional Leagues<\/a> have made the extraordinary decision to terminate the A-League and W-League licenses held by the ownership group of the Newcastle Jets, citing &quot;clear failings&quot;.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The termination was based on\u00a0the\u00a0group&#x27;s\u00a0failure to pay its debts under the control of owner Martin Lee.<\/p>\n<p>New licences will be issued to an\u00a0entity owned by\u00a0a consortium of\u00a0existing\u00a0APL\u00a0club\u00a0investors, who will operate the license\u00a0on an interim basis\u00a0until a new\u00a0investor\u00a0is\u00a0secured.<\/p>\n<p>The Jets\u00a0will\u00a0continue to participate in\u00a0APL competitions and Newcastle players will take up contracts with the new entity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Representatives of\u00a0Football Australia,\u00a0the\u00a0APL and Professional Footballers Australia\u00a0today met with the players, coaches,\u00a0management\u00a0and staff of the club to give a rundown of the decision.<\/p>\n<p>Football Australia\u00a0chief executive James Johnson said the financial position of the Jets put the ownership group in an untenable position.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FootballAUS\/status\/1345941948666847232?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"embed-social embed-twitter\" data-show-caption=\"false\" data-conversation=\"none\">https:\/\/twitter.com\/FootballAUS\/status\/1345941948666847232?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&quot;There were clear failings to adequately\u00a0capitalise Newcastle Jets FC to meet the minimum\u00a0requirements\u00a0set to\u00a0run\u00a0an A-League and\u00a0Westfield\u00a0W-League\u00a0club,\u00a0and\u00a0to operate a company in\u00a0accordance with Australian law,&quot; Johnson said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Following\u00a0the recent\u00a0announcement of the\u00a0unbundling of the\u00a0Professional\u00a0Leagues from\u00a0Football\u00a0Australia,\u00a0it&#x27;s pleasing to see\u00a0a\u00a0group\u00a0of existing\u00a0APL\u00a0club\u00a0investors\u00a0stepping\u00a0in to\u00a0assume control of Newcastle Jets FC\u00a0in the interim.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It is important for Football Australia to remain separate to the ownership of the clubs so that it can effectively carry out its responsibilities as the governing body of football in Australia and\u00a0regulator of the Professional Leagues.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The Newcastle and northern New South Wales\u00a0region\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0heartland of Australian football &#8211;
