Australian opener Matthew Wade has revealed that the team expects David Warner to play against India at the SCG and provide a huge shot in the arm for a struggling batting unit.<\/p>\n

"We expect David to play, so it'll either be me opening with him or they'll make a change," Wade told reporters on Sunday.<\/p>\n

"I'm not sure it'll be me and Will (Pucovski).<\/p>\n

"I'll give myself a good chance."<\/p>\n

Warner injured his groin in an ODI against India in November and has not played since.<\/p>\n

He told media on Saturday that it was "highly doubtful" he would be 100 per cent fit for the third Test which starts on Thursday in Sydney.<\/p>\n

If Warner does return, he will be a straight swap for the axed Joe Burns.<\/a><\/p>\n

Selectors would then decide between keeping Wade or introducing Pucovski or Marcus Harris.<\/p>\n

Warner's inclusion would be massive for Australia's chances with the four Test Border Gavaskar series locked at 1-1.<\/p>\n

"We all know what Davey does, he's a dangerous player at the top of the order and they are hard to come by \u2013 guys that average 50 and strike at what Davey does," Wade said, while responding to criticism of Australia's sluggish run rates.<\/p>\n

"There's been a lot of talk around the strike rate, but standing in the field India have been under pressure with our bowlers for a long period as well.<\/p>\n

"That's tough, hard Test cricket, it's not easy to score."<\/p>\n

Wade also fired back at the likes of Simon O'Donnell who suggested he had "signed his own death warrant" <\/a>by putting his hand up to open.<\/p>\n

"I saw it as an opportunity to show I was versatile to bat from one to seven, I've batted in pretty much every position in the Test lineup, so I saw it as a positive opportunity," Wade said.<\/p>\n

"Going forward, they have someone who can cover every position and I can wicket-keep as well if something happened to Tim [Paine].<\/p>\n

"Saw it as a positive than a worry about being picked, I'm a bit passed that now, my spot has been speculated for 10 years so pretty used to that.<\/p>\n

"Moving forward, if that's something the selectors want me to keep doing I'm more than comfortable doing it now, if I slide back down the order then as I said going into the Test summer I'm happy to bat wherever."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
