A huge brawl broke out during the NBL's Melbourne grudge match on Sunday, as Melbourne United big man Mason Peatling was ejected during a fiery encounter.<\/p>\n

South East Melbourne's Mitch Creek threw down a huge dunk on United's marquee man, Matthew Dellavedova – and stood over him celebrating, prompting Peatling to sprint in and body check the Phoenix veteran. That was when players rushed in from everywhere to confront one another.<\/p>\n

The outrageous move prompted bewilderment from Boomers legend Andrew Gaze in the commentary booth.<\/p>\n

"Really silly stuff by Peatling, not nessecary," Gaze said as the players were pulled apart.<\/p>\n

"What was Peatling thinking? Sometimes you've just got to wear it, you get posterised every now and then.<\/p>\n

"That is completely unnecessary, and hurts your team, just when you get back into it."<\/p>\n

Peatling was ejected from the game while Creek and teammate Izayah Le'afa received technical fouls.<\/p>\n

Creek finished the game with 16 points as the Phoenix came away with a 94-86 win, largely on the back of Chinese star Zhou Qi who had 22 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks.<\/p>\n

It was the 13th iteration of the Melbourne vs South East Melbourne rivalry, known as the 'Throwdown', since the Phoenix were added to the league in the 2019-20 season.<\/p>\n

The rivalry picked up steam in last year's finals series when United knocked the Phoenix out in the semis, 2-1, before going on to win the NBL title.<\/p>\n
