New Cronulla recruit<\/a> Dale Finucane was back in Melbourne on Friday night, where he took time to defend his former side the Melbourne Storm<\/a>, and ex-teammate Brandon Smith<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before being presented to Sharks fans yesterday, Finucane addressed his relationship with Smith and strongly denied there being any sort of destructive drinking culture at the Storm<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The star lock's response comes after Smith made explosive remarks on a podcast that drinking is "a massive part of the culture" at the Storm<\/a> while claiming that Finucane consumed a bottle of vodka in just 32 minutes before vomiting into a shoe.<\/p>\n

"You hear stories of people having a beer, but there was no malice in what Brandon was saying \u2013 he was recounting some events that had happened," Finucane said.<\/p>\n

"Given what had happened with the [white powder] scandal<\/a> over the off-season, it added fuel to it all.<\/p>\n

"There's no drinking culture down there at Melbourne. Like anywhere and any job, it's all about enjoying a beer at the right place and at the right time.<\/p>\n

"There are protocols and rules in Melbourne where you aren't allowed a beer within a certain time frame before a game. It's also designed for recovery purposes.<\/p>\n

"I want to be strong on the fact there isn't a drinking culture at the Melbourne Storm.<\/p>\n

Despite the saga that has unfolded following the controversial podcast, Finucane said there was no bad blood between him and Smith.<\/p>\n

"I didn't hear from Brandon and, to be honest, I didn't know about the story until my father-in-law told me.<\/p>\n

"I think, given what had happened around him signing with the Roosters, there were a lot of articles being written, and I was a part of it.<\/p>\n

"He didn't text me and I didn't hear from him. But there are no issues. I saw him last night, but we didn't even address it."<\/p>\n
