Supercars young gun Will Brown produced a scorching lap in Qualifying to grab pole for the Top-10 Shootout at the Bathurst 1000<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old from Erebus Motorsport, competing at the Bathurst 1000 for the first time, posted a lap of 2:03.898.<\/p>\n

A driver at the other end of his career \u2013 the legendary Jamie Whincup<\/a> \u2013 sensationally missed out on the top 10, finishing 11th.<\/p>\n

Tim Slade set a brilliant time late in the session to grab fourth spot and knock Whincup out of the top 10.<\/p>\n

Brown was so caught up in celebrating his magnificent run that he likely missed the drama surrounding Whincup.<\/p>\n

"I grew some balls out there and had a dip!" Brown said on the Fox Sports broadcast.<\/p>\n

"That was bloody awesome. How good was that!<\/p>\n

"To do a 2:03 around here … I didn't care if I got pole or not \u2013 that's a pretty wicked time. I am just pumped."<\/p>\n

Supercars great Mark Scaife<\/a> was stunned.<\/p>\n

"Absolutely exceptional!" Scaife said on the Fox Sports broadcast.<\/p>\n

"Brilliant job."<\/p>\n

Scaife had put into perspective ahead of Qualifying just how important pole was.<\/p>\n

"It's massive, it's massive," Scaife said on the Fox Sports coverage.<\/p>\n

"It intimidates everybody.<\/p>\n

"If you're the fastest this afternoon you walk out of this joint with a spring in your step and you walk into tomorrow with a very, very big smile on your face."<\/p>\n
