The Victorian government has confirmed that there will be bumper crowds at both the Boxing Day Ashes<\/a> Test and Australian Open<\/a> tennis, with both events being allowed to operate at 100 per cent capacity.<\/p>\n

Premier Daniel Andrews praised his state for its efforts during frequent lockdowns over the past two years.<\/p>\n

"Victorians have kept their end of the bargain and the government will do the same," he said.<\/p>\n

In 2020, The Open had 812,174 fans in attendance across the two-week tournament, which was a record for any Grand Slam.<\/p>\n

Due to restrictions related to the pandemic, that total was reduced to 130,444 last summer.<\/p>\n

The Boxing Day Test had a cumulative attendance of 89,472 last year, with 27,615 in attendance on day one.<\/p>\n

For contrast, the year before it was 80,473 on December 26, and 203,472 in total.<\/p>\n

The highest-ever cumulative attendance came in 2013, when 91,112 packed in for day one of the Ashes Test, and 271,865 attended overall.<\/p>\n
