There will be no room for Matthew Wade<\/a> and probably not Mitchell Marsh<\/a> either as Australia prepares to name an extended squad for the 2021 Ashes series<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The squad will be named later today, but The Sydney Morning Herald has reported<\/a> that Wade will not be involved in the squad, with Marsh unable to displace the likes of Cameron Green, Travis Head or Usman Khawaja for a spot in the middle order.<\/p>\n

This is despite former Australian Test captain Mark Taylor<\/a> saying that Marsh may have batted himself into Ashes contention after his match-winning knock in the final.<\/p>\n

After years of being Australian cricket's whipping boy, Marsh delivered on the biggest stage, guiding his side to its first T20 World Cup with an unbeaten 77 off 50 deliveries<\/a> – but Cameron Green is likely to hold him off for one of those spots in the middle order.<\/p>\n

The other will be filled by either Head or Khawaja, the latter scoring back-to-back centuries last month.<\/p>\n

Scott Boland has reportedly earned a spot among the backup quicks, along with Jhye Richardson and Sean Abbott, behind the incumbent trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc.<\/p>\n
