There is a "very real chance" that Australian boxing star Tim Tszyu<\/a> will soon get his world title shot, but first he wants to "hurt" Japanese star Takeshi Inoue this week.<\/p>\n

Tszyu is out to further his unbeaten professional record (19-0, 15 KOs) by notching his 20th win when he takes on Inoue (17-1-1, 10 KOs) on Wednesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While the 27-year-old's focus will be on Inoue, who is ranked No.7 in the world by the WBO, momentum continues to build towards a world title fight for the Aussie.<\/p>\n

Tszyu is currently the WBO's mandatory challenger for Argentinian star Brian Castano's light-middleweight belt.<\/p>\n

"It's a very exciting time… it's a very real opportunity and a very real chance that our next outing will be against Brian Castano for that world title," Tszyu's manager Glen Jennings said.<\/p>\n

"It's just a matter of timing to see whether or not the mandate gets enforced and we will roll on with that."<\/p>\n

Speaking at today's pre-fight press conference, Tszyu said his bout with Inoue will be the perfect stepping stone to making it onto the world stage.<\/p>\n

"It's a similar type of style to Brian Castano – that walk forward, small little boy, big muscly and swinging type of style," Tszyu said.<\/p>\n

"It's going to be a good test to that world stage and he (Inoue) is a world calibre opponent. I respect everything he has done.<\/p>\n

"I've come into this sport not to achieve (just) a world title, but world titles in multiple divisions.<\/p>\n

"I'm here for the long run."<\/p>\n

Tszyu, the son of boxing legend Kostya Tszyu, said his mindset is focused on giving Inoue a lesson in the ring.<\/p>\n

"I'm in that mode now, in that zone and I just want to hurt people… I said before (the fight will finish) under six rounds, but we will see," he said.<\/p>\n

"If I want to hurt him for a bit longer, I will decide. We will see on the night."<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Inoue is also focused on making it back onto the world stage.<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old from Tokyo is no stranger to blockbuster bouts having fallen just short via unanimous decision in 2019 against Jaime Munguia for the light-middleweight title.<\/p>\n

"This is my chance to get back to the world title, it's what I've been working towards from the beginning of my career, to realise myself as the world champion," Inoue said.<\/p>\n

"It's not all that I've seen any weaknesses (in Tszyu)… it has to do with my trainer and how he's been working with me, and how he is very confident.<\/p>\n

"When I've watched Tim Tszyu, his fights – I can see very clearly that in many ways I think he's made to order for me.<\/p>\n

"I realise Tim is an extraordinary opponent, so I don't expect it to be an easy fight.<\/p>\n

"I'm going to apply myself, give it 100 per cent and I will be going for the knockout."<\/p>\n

Asked if he would knock Tszyu out, Inoue's translater replied "absolutely".<\/p>\n
