David Warner<\/a> looked like he was going to rescue Australia<\/a> in their time of need to advance to the T20 World Cup<\/a> Final.<\/p>\n

Warner started well at the top of the order as the Aussies tried to pass Pakistan's target of 4\/176.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old smashed three boundaries and three sixes and was one run off his half century, looking as though he was going to guide Australia through to the final.<\/p>\n

Facing confident leg-spinner Shadab Khan, who had removed Mitch Marsh and Steve Smith previously, Warner, on 49 off 30 balls, didn\u2019t review a caught behind decision that saw him given out, even though the television replays suggested he didn\u2019t edge the ball to wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan.<\/p>\n

"Snicko" didn't register a noise either but to the shock of teammates and fans, the left-hander tucked his bat under his arm and walked off without giving a thought to check the decision.<\/p>\n

If he had opted to review the third umpire would have been compelled to over rule, with all the evidence pointing to a call in Warner's favour.<\/p>\n

South African quick Dale Steyn was left bewildered by the decision in the commentary box.<\/p>\n

"I don't quite know what to say," he said.<\/p>\n

"Sometimes there's a bit of a click in the bat handle … It's a long way (away from the bat). You can see straight away both the bowler and keeper went straight up.<\/p>\n

"Sometimes you can get those little creaks in the handle, that could have been the case. Warner may not have felt it but heard something himself."<\/p>\n

The moment also stunned pundits and former players watching at home, with Indian broadcaster Harsha Bogle expressing his shock over the call, tweeting "What!!"<\/p>\n

Ex-England star Owais Shah wrote: "Can someone tell me why David Warner walked after NOT edging the ball!?"<\/p>\n

Manak Gupta added: "UNBELIEVABLE. Warner didn't nick it\u2026.and he walked."<\/p>\n

Luckily for Warner and Australia it didn't influence the end result with Matthew Wade taking matters into his own hands down the stretch along with Marcus Stoinis.<\/p>\n

Wade smacked three successive sixes off Pakistan\u2019s Shaheen Afridi in the penultimate over and lifted Australia to a five-wicket victory.<\/p>\n

He crashed Pakistan's hopes in a stunning display of power-hitting against a premier T20 fast bowler as Australia cruised to 5177 with an over to spare.<\/p>\n

Pakistan reached the semi-finals on the back of five successive wins in the group games and had stretched their win streak in the United Arab Emirates to 16 matches over five years.<\/p>\n

But Hasan Ali dropped a regulation catch off the left-hander Wade at mid-wicket before Afridi was hit for three sixes with two of those scooping over the short fine leg.<\/p>\n

Hasan also went for 27 runs off his last two overs against Wade and Stoinis and returned with the expensive figures of 0-44.<\/p>\n

Wade made an unbeaten 41 off just 17 balls and Stoinis supported him superbly with 40 off 31 balls as both batters shared a match-winning 81-run partnership off just 40 balls.<\/p>\n

Earlier, half centuries by in-form Mohammad Rizwan (67) and Fakhar Zaman (55 not out) helped Pakistan reach 176-4 after Australia captain Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to field.<\/p>\n

\u201cProbably hasn\u2019t sunk in, I\u2019ve just finished batting,\u201d Wade said. \u201cWhen I got out there with Marcus, he was really confident we\u2019d get them, even though I was a little unsure. \u2026 It got down to two a ball, and from there it was if you got one in your arc, just try to hit it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leg-spinner Shadab Khan (4-26) had Australia\u2019s back against the walls at 5-96 in the 14th over before Stoinis and Wade\u2019s onslaught against the fast bowlers took the game away from Pakistan in the death overs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we had taken that (Hasan Ali) catch, it might have made the difference,\u201d Pakistan captain Babar Azam said. \u201cI hope we try and learn from our mistakes after this. We\u2019ve played so well in the tournament, we\u2019ll gain confidence, and we\u2019ll continue to try and play this way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shadab had the wickets of Mitchell Marsh (28), Steve Smith (5) and Glenn Maxwell (7), but his most prized wicket came in controversial circumstances when David Warner didn\u2019t go for a television referral.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Rizwan became the first batter in the world to score 1,000 runs in Twenty20s in a calendar year, but not before he twice got dropped.<\/p>\n

Warner dropped a tough chance while running backward from mid-off before Rizwan had scored and Zampa missed a difficult low catch in the deep.<\/p>\n

Those let offs allowed Rizwan to share two solid stands — adding 71 runs with Babar (39) and then 72 with Zaman, who provided a perfect finish by hammering two sixes to Mitchell Starc. However, Zaman was also lucky to get a life when Smith dropped him on 40 before the left-hander added vital runs in the last over.<\/p>\n

Australia will take on New Zealand in the final on Sunday at Dubai after the Black Caps defeated England in the first semifinal \u2014 also by five wickets \u2014 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The toss could again prove vital in the final as 11 out of 12 games in the tournament has been won by the teams chasing the targets in Dubai.<\/p>\n
