Fast bowler James Pattinson<\/a> is in hot water over an unsavoury incident on the final day<\/a> of Victoria's Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales.<\/p>\n

Cricket Australia has fined Pattinson his entire match fee, and suspended him for one match, after he struck opening batter Daniel Hughes with a wayward throw.<\/p>\n

Pattinson had collected the ball in his follow-through when he hurled it in the direction of the stumps, but instead collected Hughes on the foot.<\/p>\n

The batter threw his bat and helmet away in disgust, while Pattinson apologised for the incident.<\/p>\n

"Pattinson was charged and found guilty under Article 2.7 of the code for throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and\/or dangerous manner during a match," Cricket Australia said in a statement. <\/p>\n

Hughes carried his bat for a defiant 89 in the Blues' second innings, facing 319 balls in an unsuccessful attempt to salvage a draw.<\/p>\n

New South Wales was bowled out for 247, giving Victoria victory by 174 runs.<\/p>\n

Pattinson will now have to sit out Friday's Marsh Cup match against New South Wales at the MCG, although he could yet appeal the sanction.<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old last month announced his retirement<\/a> from Test cricket.<\/p>\n
