Parramatta's<\/a> Reed Mahoney<\/a> has been spotted dining with Bulldogs<\/a> officials, in a clear sign the hooker is exploring his options for 2023.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old, who was named in Queensland's extended squad for the opening State of Origin match this season before being injured, is contracted to Parramatta until the end of next season.<\/p>\n

From November 1, he was free to negotiate with rival clubs for 2023.<\/p>\n

Mahoney was filmed by a patron at Canterbury Leagues Club last night, enjoying a Chinese meal with Bulldogs coach Trent Barrett. The footage was then uploaded to social media.<\/p>\n

Also present were Mahoney's manager Sam Ayoub and Bulldogs general manager of football, Phil Gould.<\/p>\n

While Parramatta is keen to retain Mahoney, the club faces a battle to keep all its off-contract stars for 2023. Salary cap issues will need to be worked through, with Mahoney's reported asking price of $700,000 a season a potential stumbling block.<\/p>\n

The likes of Clint Gutherson<\/a> and Ryan Matterson are also off-contract at the end of next season.<\/p>\n

Mahoney has already been linked with a number of Brisbane-based clubs, including the Dolphins.<\/p>\n

The Eels issued a statement on Friday imploring fans to ignore "media speculation"<\/a> about the long-term future of its players.<\/p>\n

"Our approach is not to engage publicly in speculation regarding player negotiations," the statement said.<\/p>\n

"To date, our discussions with players and their managers have been robust, professional and constructive."<\/p>\n

Mahoney's meeting with Bulldogs officials comes as Gold Coast confirms its interest<\/a> in Melbourne's Brandon Smith for 2023.<\/p>\n
