{"id":156947,"date":"2021-11-08T01:27:12","date_gmt":"2021-11-08T02:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=156947"},"modified":"2021-11-08T05:14:50","modified_gmt":"2021-11-08T05:14:50","slug":"aussie-makes-history-at-new-york-marathon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=156947","title":{"rendered":"Aussie makes history at New York marathon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Paralympics champion Madison de Rozario has made history by becoming the first Australian woman to win the New York marathon.<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old Perth-raised wheelchair star crossed the Central Park finish line in a time of 1:51:01 to clinch victory in what was her third attempt at the world-famous marathon event.<\/p>\n<p>She won by an astonishing three minutes ahead of former New York winners Tatyana McFadden of the US and Switzerland&#x27;s Manuela Shar.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;This is unreal,&quot; de Rozario said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;New York is one that I&#x27;ve never had amazing results on. It&#x27;s been my least successful event, and my least successful consistently.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"2319bf79-7da8-4ef8-bf2c-bb513eb6d8ce\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/2319bf79-7da8-4ef8-bf2c-bb513eb6d8ce\" alt=\"Madison de Rozario of Australia poses for a picture after crossing the finish line first in the womens wheelchair division of the New York City Marathon.\" data-width=\"5600\" data-height=\"3733\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&quot;But the two years we weren&#x27;t travelling, we buried ourselves in base work and strength work, and it&#x27;s paid off not just here but in Tokyo, it&#x27;s so nice to see.&quot;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/news\/aust-wheelchair-champ-wins-london-marathon\/35c3e5fb-07f6-4989-b064-7c9fad873338\" title=\"De Rozario won the London marathon in 2018\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">De Rozario won the London marathon in 2018<\/a>. She will pocket $25,000 for winning the marathon.<\/p>\n<p><img data-video-id=\"6272561428001\" src=\"https:\/\/vms-network-images-prod.s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com\/2021\/09\/381107\/pickerimage.jpg\" alt=\"NSW Health includes Paralympians in home quarantine trial\" data-vms-id=\"ref:cktkoelaj000g0hjvx0oqiz4z\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The victory makes her the first Paralympics marathon champion to win New York in the same year.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I&#x27;ve been wanting to break into this part of my career for three years,&quot; De Rozario said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The marathon is such a big challenge in terms of how you train for it. There&#x27;s such a huge difference between staying with a pack, or getting to the podium or even staying strong throughout the distance.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;But to back up a win. I&#x27;ve never been consistent.
