WATCH VIDEO ABOVE:<\/strong> A freak accident has taken out two race-leading teammates during a Formula Regional European Championship event at Monza.<\/p>\n

Prema teammates Dino Beganovic and David Vidales were battling for the lead heading into the Della Roggia chicane, the same part of the circuit where Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton clashed on the opening lap of the recent Italian Grand Prix.<\/p>\n

Both drivers Beganovic and Vidales were unable to make the corner, and as they rejoined, Vidales was launched over the 'sausage kerbs', which are in place to enforce track limits.<\/p>\n

The impact meant Vidales was nothing more than a passenger, and as his car landed it took out his teammate as well.<\/p>\n

"I feel for Dino, but when my car jumped over the bollard I couldn't control it anymore," Vidales said.<\/p>\n

"We showed we could be really competitive this weekend, but unfortunately the results did not reflect the potential."<\/p>\n

The accident cost Beganovic a potential first win in the series.<\/p>\n

Monza's 'sausage kerbs' have been under scrutiny in recent years, following a 2019 accident that left Australia's Alex Peroni with a fractured vertebrae.<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Peroni's<\/p>\n

Peroni<\/a> was launched into the air at the Parabolica turn, when his F3 car ran wide and took off over the kerb.<\/p>\n

The Australian landed upside down on the trackside barrier, and told Wide World of Sports after the accident that only the recently-introduced Halo device saved his life<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"I landed directly on my head and even though the halo was there, my helmet still hit the barrier," Peroni said.<\/p>\n

"Without the halo, who knows what would have happened."<\/p>\n
