Australian Kyle Chalmers broke the 13-year-old men's 100m freestyle short-course world record this morning (AEDT) in Kazan, Russia.<\/p>\n
The Australian touched in 44.84sec to take 0.10sec off the record set by Frenchman Amaury Leveaux in 2008. <\/p>\n
Chalmers took silver in the event in the longer 50m Olympic pool in Tokyo finishing 0.06sec behind American Caeleb Dressel who won in 47.02. <\/p>\n
The 23-year-old Aussie also won two relay bronze medals in Tokyo.<\/p>\n

Chalmers had won the 100m in the three previous legs of the four-event World Cup this month.<\/p>\n
The competition is swum in 25m pools where times are traditionally faster. <\/p>\n
Leveaux set his world record in the European short-course championships in Croatia in December 2008.<\/p>\n
It was the third time the record had been broken in a week.<\/p>\n
Leveaux beat the time he had set the day before when he had topped the six-day-old mark of compatriot Alain Bernard.<\/p>\n
