Manly has revealed bold plans to keep the NRL's newest franchise from poaching captain and halfback Daly Cherry-Evans<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speculation is mounting that Cherry-Evans will return home to Redcliffe after next season and become the Dolphins' inaugural captain in 2023.<\/p>\n

Cherry-Evans has two years left on his current contract but can get out of the final year if he really wants to.<\/p>\n

That has led to the Sea Eagles to act quickly, and according to News Corp the club is looking to offer the star a two year extension, which could mean Cherry-Evans plays until the end of 2025, aged 36.<\/p>\n

It's understood Cherry-Evans is being earmarked to join Des Hasler's coaching staff once he hangs up the boots. DCE reportedly has interest in a consultancy type role and also has interest to join Manly's marketing and corporate team.<\/p>\n

Sources claim Cherry-Evans is keen to stay on Sydney's northern beaches, with all his family and friends living in Sydney.<\/p>\n

The playmaker was nominated for the Dally M halfback of the year award this year and also finished equal fourth in the Dally M Medal count alongside the Roosters star fullback James Tedesco.<\/p>\n
