The 211-centimetre ruck-forward has had very little impact since his exceptional preliminary final performance against Richmond<\/a> in 2019, in which he bagged three goals and took 11 marks, eight of which were contested, as the Magpies stunned the Tigers to reach the grand final.<\/p>\n

Cox's sustained period of benign form had led to considerable speculation around his future as an AFL footballer, with many wondering if his journey from US basketball to a foreign sport would end after seven years.<\/p>\n

A combination of form and injury limited the 30-year-old to just seven senior games in 2021.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

But Cox, who's booted 93 goals from 73 AFL games since making his debut in 2016, is now locked in at the Magpies until the end of 2022.<\/p>\n

"We are pleased to be in a position to retain Mason for another season," Collingwood general manager of football Graham Wright said.<\/p>\n
