Javid Bowen's NRL<\/a> comeback has been tragically cut short after the Cowboys<\/a> centre was forced to call time on his career due to complications from a knee injury.<\/p>\n

Bowen suffered a ruptured MCL and ACL against the Sydney Roosters<\/a> in July after making nine consecutive appearances for the team.<\/p>\n

Bowen lost his spot in the Cowboys roster at the end of 2019, but returned to Cairns to force his way back into the team.<\/p>\n

The club was impressed with Bowen's determination and professionalism during the Queensland Cup shut down in 2020 and gave him a shot at reclaiming his NRL jersey this season.<\/p>\n

Medical advice Bowen received confirmed his knee would never recover enough to combat the rigors of NRL football again and the centre was cleared for medical retirement.<\/p>\n

"He's a benchmark example for guys who potentially thought the dream was over for them. Javid proved it isn't and he should be held as a shining light for all juniors in North Queensland," Cowboys head of football Michael Luck said.<\/p>\n

Luck confirmed the club will help Bowen with his transition from football into retirement.<\/p>\n

Bowen made 45 appearances for the Cowboys, scoring 13 tries.<\/p>\n
