Mike Tomlin's response to a reporter's question has been described as possibly the "greatest and most direct" answer to a sports reporter's question in recent history.<\/p>\n
The Pittsburgh Steelers coach, known for his no nonsense approach, said he considers it a \u201cjoke\u201d that his name has popped up as a potential candidate for places such as Southern California, in the collegiate system.<\/p>\n
While such a question would often conjure a soft denial from most coaches, Tomlin was clearly in no mood to increase speculation.<\/p>\n
"Hey guys, I don't have time to for that speculation," Tomlin said. "That's a joke to me. I have one of the best jobs in all of professional sport. Why would I have any interest in coaching college football? That will be the last time I address it – not only today, but moving forward.<\/p>\n

Anybody asking Andy Reid about stuff like that?," then abruptly ended his news conference.<\/p>\n Tomlin referred to other senior head coaches who have also won a Super Bowl like the Steelers mentor.<\/p>\n Former Heisman Trophy winner and USC star Carson Palmer told The Dan Patrick radio show that Tomlin was a \u201cwild card\u201d as the Trojans look for someone to replace Clay Helton, who was fired in September.<\/p>\n Former Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley, who worked in the Steelers front office alongside Tomlin for several years before moving on to the Bills, said on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh last week that Steeler fans should be worried about the letters \u201cU-S-C\u201d and \u201cL-S-U.\u201d<\/p>\n Tomlin is 148-81-1 in 15 seasons with the Steelers, one shy of the number his predecessor \u2014 Hall of Famer Bill Cowher \u2014 reached in the same number of seasons with the club. The Steelers signed Tomlin to a three-year contract extension in April that runs through 2024.<\/p>\n The 49-year-old, who played collegiately at William & Mary before going into coaching, has no connection to USC or LSU. He's spent the overwhelming majority of his coaching career in the NFL. <\/p>\n Tomlin last coached at the college level while serving as the defensive backs coach at the University of Cincinnati in 1999 and 2000.
