A college football star in America was on the receiving end of a penalty that had fans and commentators scratching their heads.<\/p>\n

Iowa State wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson beat his Oklahoma opponent to get into the backfield and score a 51-yard touchdown.<\/p>\n

But the referee threw a flag and took the touchdown off Hutchinson, instead penalising the college star for "taunting" – unsportsmanlike conduct.<\/p>\n

The match official took exception to the way the scorer had run to the in-goal, with Hutchinson changing his gait slightly to include something similar to a goosestep.<\/p>\n

"The touchdown will come back. It's going to be… taunting? Come on," exclaimed an Iowa State commentator.<\/p>\n

"The kind of thing you never see called. Did he raise the ball?<\/p>\n

"The fun police are out. Come on… this is like the worst call in NCAA history."<\/p>\n

Hutchinson was the star of the game, despite the bizarre penalty, and was later asked about the unusual incident.<\/p>\n

"I am never, ever, ever, ever, going to look back again in my life, or show any high step in the end zone ever again," he said.<\/p>\n

"Imma just run into the end zone and hand the ball to the ref. That's it."<\/p>\n

Pundits on social media appeared unanimous in disagreeing with the referee's decision.<\/p>\n
