Young gun Aussie leg-spinner Georgia Wareham is facing significant time in the casualty ward after suffering a serious knee injury during a WBBL <\/a>game.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old dropped to the ground while fielding for Melbourne Renegades during their loss to the Adelaide Strikers on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Cricket Australia today confirmed Wareham ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament. It's an injury that typically requires surgery and can sideline athletes for more than nine months.<\/p>\n

"Georgia has sustained a left knee ACL injury; she had an ACL rupture on the same knee at the age of 14 whilst playing AFL which was reconstructed\u00a0using a synthetic (LARS) ligament," Australian team doctor Pip Inge said.<\/p>\n

"Whilst in the field yesterday she had an instability episode of the left knee resulting in a rupture of the graft. <\/p>\n

"As a result she will be unavailable\u00a0for the remainder of the WBBL season. Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria medical staff are working in consultation with Georgia on the longer term management plan."<\/p>\n

Wareham has cemented herself as one of Australian cricket's brightest young stars and has already played one Test, 23 one-day internationals, and 35 T20 internationals for the country.<\/p>\n
