Rising paceman Jhye Richardson has suffered another injury setback in his bid to return to Australia<\/a>'s Test squad for the Ashes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old yesterday took part in his first Sheffield Shield<\/a> match since early in the 2019-20 summer, picking off 34 runs from 49 balls and taking a late wicket on day one of Western Australia's clash with Tasmania<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But after finishing with 1-5 from two overs at stumps on the opening day, he failed to take to the field for day two of the WACA fixture, having suffered a back spasm during the warm-up.<\/p>\n

His lengthy Sheffield Shield hiatus was a result of international duties and a shoulder injury that required two bouts of surgery, while he'd also been fighting a side strain and ankle troubles during the lead-up to this summer's domestic season.<\/p>\n

"Horror luck," wrote sports reporter Nic Savage on Twitter.<\/p>\n

Radio co-host Jacob Landsmeer posted: "(Richardson) left the ground with the doctor and physio in obvious discomfort".<\/p>\n

Richardson began having shoulder issues when he dislocated his right shoulder while diving in the field during a one-day international against Pakistan<\/a> in the UAE in March 2019.<\/p>\n

Richardson is hoping to add to his two Test appearances when England tour Australia for the Ashes this summer.<\/p>\n

While the nippy right-arm quick has always sat behind Pat Cummins<\/a>, Josh Hazlewood<\/a> and Mitchell Starc<\/a> in Australia's fast-bowling pecking order, he played two Tests against Sri Lanka<\/a> in January 2019 after Hazlewood was struck down by injury.<\/p>\n
