Dubai: Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Spain’s Pep Guardiola were\u00a0honored\u00a0at the Globe Soccer Awards\u00a0in Dubai, the duo named player and coach of the century respectively.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 35-year-old Ronaldo picked up the award in person at a ceremony held at the local Hotel in Dubai on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Juventus forward, who has won\u00a0domestic league titles in Spain, England and Italy and\u00a0Euro 2016\u00a0with\u00a0Portugal, admitted his pride at receiving the accolade, given to the player judged the\u00a0best between 2001 and 2020.<\/p>\n

“It’s a pleasure to win titles. It’s not easy to be top of the game for so many years. I am really proud, but without a team, great coaches and clubs it is not possible,” said Ronaldo.<\/p>\n

Guardiola was\u00a0honoured\u00a0for a managerial career which has seen him\u00a0win league championships in Spain,\u00a0Germany and England,\u00a0as well as the Champions League twice.<\/p>\n

Both Ronaldo and Lionel Messi missed out on the men’s player of the year award for 2020 as Poland’s\u00a0Robert Lewandowski bagged that award.<\/p>\n

Bayern’s treble of the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB-Pokal also saw boss Hansi Flick rewarded as coach of the year.\u00a0Spanish greats, goalkeeping legend Iker Casillas and Barcelona superstar Gerard Pique won Player Career Awards.<\/p>\n

Real Madrid\u00a0was\u00a0named the club of the century at the ceremony, while Bayern picked up the team award for 2020.<\/p>\n

It must be noted that\u00a0Globe Soccer Awards, also known as the\u00a0Dubai d’Ors\u00a0are the annual awards given for excellence in football.<\/p>\n
