A maximum crowd of 10,000 people will be allowed through the gates for The Everest<\/a> on Saturday, with the capacity for the Royal Randwick event set to be doubled.<\/p>\n

It's understood the slogan for the event will be: 'The race that stops the hibernation'.<\/p>\n

NSW Health has devised a COVID-safe plan for the Australian Turf Club, which claims it has the capacity to deal safely with the extra numbers as restrictions ease throughout the state.<\/p>\n

The decision to increase numbers from 5000 to 10,000 will need to be approved by the cabinet's COVID-19 recovery subcommittee on Wednesday, but it's understood new premier Dominic Perrottet has no issue with the idea.<\/p>\n

Australian Turf Club chief executive Jamie Barkley acknowledged the NSW government's support of the racing industry during the COVID-19 era.<\/p>\n

"The Australian Turf Club has been working closely with the NSW government throughout the pandemic and we are thrilled to be opening the gates to more people this Saturday,'' Mr Barkley said.<\/p>\n
