South Sydney<\/a> CEO Blake Solly has revealed some of the "extremely personal" attacks departing coach Wayne Bennett<\/a> endured from members at the Broncos prior to joining the Rabbitohs.<\/p>\n

While the Rabbitohs fell short by two points against the Panthers<\/a> during last weekend's grand final, much of the build-up centred on the legendary coach, who was controversially let go by the Broncos<\/a> at the end of the 2018 season before joining South Sydney.<\/p>\n

In the lead-up to the grand final, Bennett didn't specify what was done, but claimed the Broncos attempted to "undermine" his move from Red Hill to Redfern<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"I will say publicly, they (Brisbane) undermined me in their conversations with Souths. They didn't do a little job on me, they did the best job they possibly could," Bennett said after South Sydney's preliminary final win.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Nine and The Sydney Morning Herald<\/a>'s Danny Weidler, Solly claimed some members at the Broncos informed South Sydney that the then 68-year-old Bennett required a bed in his office to sleep during the day.<\/p>\n

It's understood the bed was for Bennett's handicapped son, Justin, who at the time was unable to sleep at night due to the medication he was taking.<\/p>\n

"Some of the attacks, particularly before Wayne joined us, were extremely personal and driven, I think, from individuals in the game or at the Broncos at the time to discredit Wayne," Solly told the Sydney Morning Herald<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\"NRL<\/p>\n

"One [rumour] in particular around the bed in the office was just not right. He bought that bed into the office for Justin when he attends training.<\/p>\n

"Wayne is extraordinary with him (Justin) and to have something that was done to make Justin's life comfortable turned on him was pretty cruel."<\/p>\n
