The Socceroos<\/a> have set a World Cup<\/a> record, become the first ever country to win 11 consecutive qualifiers in a single campaign.<\/p>\n

Australia defeated Oman 3-1 in Doha this morning to move to the top of their group after three of 10 scheduled matches. The top two nations in the group will qualify for next year's World Cup in Qatar.<\/p>\n

The Socceroos took the early lead with a Awer Mabil goal in the 9th minute, only to see that lead disappear when Oman levelled 20 minutes later.<\/p>\n

When Martin Boyle scored just after the half-time break the Australians had the advantage again, with Mitch Duke putting the result beyond doubt with an 89th minute goal.<\/p>\n

"Oman threw a lot at us," said coach Graham Arnold.<\/p>\n

"We were a bit erratic, but once we got the boys in at half-time and calmed them down, we focused more on keeping the ball and moving them sideways."<\/p>\n

The Socceroos next match is against Japan on Tuesday. Japan has been disappointing so far, winning just one of its three matches, including a 1-0 loss to Saudi Arabia this morning.<\/p>\n
