Essendon great Matthew Lloyd believes Collingwood <\/a>should offload another star name during this year's trade period in order to gain more draft capital.<\/p>\n

Collingwood's draft plans this year are centred around father-son prospect Nick Daicos, with the club looking to acquire picks to make up the draft points needed to match a potential bid on the talented youngster.<\/p>\n

The Magpies could also be forced to use some of their draft capital in a trade for Bulldogs midfielder Pat Lipinski, who has requested a move to Collingwood.<\/p>\n

After the Magpies got rid of Adam Treloar<\/a> in controversial circumstances last year, Lloyd believes it could be time the club considered moving on another big-money star.<\/p>\n

"I'd be going the opposite way and saying, 'We started with all these kids last year but they're not the cream of the cake'. Daicos comes in but then they're pretty much losing Pick 36, 39, 41 and 45 for those draft points," he said on AFL Trade Radio.<\/em><\/p>\n

"I think they need to let a star go for the future and betterment of their football."<\/p>\n

Treloar was essentially pushed out of the club, joining the Western Bulldogs while Collingwood was still required to pay a signficant portion of his $900,000 per year salary. He went on to play in a grand final in his first year, losing to Melbourne.<\/p>\n

Conversely, the Magpies plummeted down the ladder. They won only six games in a miserable season and finished 17th on the AFL table, ahead of only North Melbourne.<\/p>\n

The team sunk so low that long-time coach Nathan Buckley was sacked mid-season.<\/p>\n

He is replaced now by Craig McRrae, who will need to examine the roster he's inherited and figure out who needs to stay, and who can go.<\/p>\n

If the Magpies are to take Lloyd's advice and offload a big-money player then ruckman Brodie Grundy tops that list. A report earlier this year named him as the club's highest earner on $975,000.<\/p>\n

Below Grundy, the other elite players at the Magpies include the likes of Jordan de Goey, Scott Pendlebury, Steele Sidebottom, Will Hoskin-Elliott, Taylor Adams, Jamie Elliott, Jeremy Howe, and Darcy Moore.<\/p>\n

Pendlebury is unlikely to leave or be forced out give he's a club legend, their games record holder, their longest serving captain ever, and only has one year left on his current deal.<\/p>\n

De Goey is considered Collingwood's elite midfield-forward while Moore has established himself as their defensive general and last year signed a new contract worth upwards of $800,000 a year, which still has a year to run.<\/p>\n
