South Sydney<\/a> weapon Cody Walker<\/a> scored "a great grand final try" in the opening half of the Brisbane decider<\/a> and poleaxed superstar Penrith<\/a> halfback Nathan Cleary<\/a> in the process.<\/p>\n

The Rabbitohs' five-eighth scooted onto an Adam Reynolds<\/a> pass about 30 metres out on the left edge, evaded Kurt Capewell<\/a>, bulldozed over Cleary and swerved past Dylan Edwards<\/a>, before dotting down for South Sydney's first try in the 21st minute.<\/p>\n

In one positive for Cleary, the NSW State of Origin<\/a> playmaker made contact with Walker with his left shoulder, not his injured right shoulder.<\/p>\n

"Cody Walker just said, 'Give me the ball'," said rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns<\/a> on Nine's coverage.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

"And he targeted Nathan Cleary. He made it personal. Whether Nathan was protecting the shoulder or not … He took Nathan straight on."<\/p>\n

Rugby league guru Phil Gould<\/a> broke down Walker's attacking prowess.<\/p>\n

"Well the Panthers are a very hard side to go around … because they will back off and pedal back," Gould said.<\/p>\n

"Cody Walker senses that and will show and go, straight through the middle, people don't make up their ground on the inside.<\/p>\n

"That is a huge confidence builder for the five-eighth in a big game. That's a big play for Cody Walker. He's been in big games before and probably been overshadowed, but so much of South Sydney depends on him tonight and that is a really aggressive sign."<\/p>\n

Johns added: "That's a great grand final try."<\/p>\n

Gould replied: "It's a brilliant try. It reminds of the Stacey Jones try back in 2002."<\/p>\n
