{"id":137286,"date":"2021-09-30T23:46:59","date_gmt":"2021-09-30T23:46:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=137286"},"modified":"2021-10-01T12:00:44","modified_gmt":"2021-10-01T12:00:44","slug":"why-tigers-are-poised-to-reclaim-the-throne","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=137286","title":{"rendered":"Why Tigers are poised to reclaim the throne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/richmond-tigers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"Richmond\">Richmond<\/a> are poised to rebound from a disappointing 2021 season with a draft hand that could see the club vault right back into the top quarter of the ladder.<\/p>\n<p>After winning three premierships in four seasons, the Tigers missed the finals for the first time since 2016, but the poor season leaves Richmond with the No.7 pick in the draft.<\/p>\n<p>The No.7 pick is one of four selections Richmond have inside the top-30 in November&#x27;s national draft, with the picks giving them plenty of flexibility.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The strong draft (hand) gives us the flexibility to maximise our position this year and next year,&quot; Tigers GM of Football, Tim Livingstone, told 3AW&#x27;s <em>Sportsday<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We&#x27;ll see what comes up with free agency and trade, we&#x27;ll see where everyone sits in respect to other clubs (in the coming weeks).&quot;<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"8a7c3abf-6d72-43e9-a713-6a10c99b581e\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/8a7c3abf-6d72-43e9-a713-6a10c99b581e\" alt=\"Dustin Martin\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Former GWS and Carlton list manager Stephen Silvagni was full of praise for Richmond&#x27;s ability to maintain draft capital despite competing for premierships in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;They&#x27;ve done really, really well,&quot; Silvagni told AFL Trade Radio.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;To think that they&#x27;ve won three premierships in the last four years and now they&#x27;re able to go back to the draft and they&#x27;ve got four picks inside 30.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Generally when you rebuild a team, you&#x27;re hoping to get something like three or four picks inside 25.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Here&#x27;s a team that&#x27;s been successful, and it&#x27;s great planning by their list management committee, they&#x27;ve done really, really well. Brisbane (via Melbourne)<\/p>\n<p><strong>What your club is up to<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Adelaide<br \/><\/strong>Current draft hand: 4, 23, 37, 59, 63<\/p>\n<p>Adelaide&#x27;s list management team&#x27;s entire off-season will be based around <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/afl\/news-2021-sydney-swans-jordan-dawson-adelaide-crows-port-adelaide\/f08a73e8-d2e5-4a9e-9848-619b961805fd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"getting Sydney&#x27;s Jordan Dawson to the club\">getting Sydney&#x27;s <strong>Jordan Dawson<\/strong> to the club<\/a>. All indications are that the Crows are unwilling to part ways with their first pick (No.4) and their second (No.23) is unlikely to appease Sydney. Both are ingredients which are likely to cause a good old-fashioned standoff.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"820539f4-86c6-4d26-aac2-e1ad2f481563\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/820539f4-86c6-4d26-aac2-e1ad2f481563\" alt=\"\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Brisbane<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 14, 18, 47, 51, 57, 73<\/p>\n<p>The Lions have avoided what had the potential to be a busy off-season with Lachie Neale indicating his desire to stay at the club for at least another season. Brisbane has also been linked with Collingwood&#x27;s <strong>Mason Cox<\/strong> with the ruck position still an area of need. Having two first-round picks in the teens also gives the Lions some trade-up potential.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carlton<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 6, 25, 61<\/p>\n<p>The Blues will once again be one of the headline acts during the trade period with talented Fremantle youngster <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/afl\/adam-cerra\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"Adam Cerra\"><strong>Adam Cerra<\/strong><\/a> nominating the club as his destination of choice. Carlton is also likely to acquire Sydney tagger <strong>George Hewett<\/strong>, although that will be a much less painful transaction than the Cerra deal, which could go the distance.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"cff967dd-42ea-4855-b2a2-06b71b5b4c7a\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/cff967dd-42ea-4855-b2a2-06b71b5b4c7a\" alt=\"Adam Cerra\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Collingwood<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 36, 39, 41, 45<\/p>\n<p>The crown jewel of Collingwood&#x27;s off-season is talented father-son prospect <strong>Nick Daicos<\/strong>, who is likely to be bid on by a rival club within the top three picks in the draft. <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/afl\/western-bulldogs-midfielder-pat-lipinski-requests-trade-to-collingwood\/eb3142e9-266b-4396-a3af-3d2f04ff1e11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"Bulldogs midfielder Pat Lipinski has nominated the Magpies\">Bulldogs midfielder <strong>Pat Lipinski<\/strong> has nominated the Magpies<\/a> as his destination of choice and the Pies will hope to get that deal done while maintaining some draft capital to match a Daicos bid.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Essendon<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 11, 48, 53<\/p>\n<p>After being central to the trade period over the last three off-seasons, Essendon aren&#x27;t poised to be huge players this time around. Bombers GM Josh Mahoney has indicated that the club would like to improve its draft hand to continue adding to a talented young core, but it remains to be seen how that is done. Rugged defender <strong>Jake Kelly<\/strong> will arrive as an unrestricted free agent, while unwanted Saint <strong>Luke Dunstan<\/strong> is also interested in joining the Bombers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fremantle<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 8, 27<\/p>\n<p>Fremantle&#x27;s off-season will be all about trying to obtain maximum value for Cerra, who wants to go to Carlton. Big man <strong>Rory Lobb<\/strong>&#x27;s name has also emerged in trade rumours in recent days, although it remains unclear how willing rival clubs would be to eat up the 28-year-old&#x27;s reported $700,000 per year contract.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Geelong<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 30, 32, 34, 52<\/p>\n<p>After being major players during last year&#x27;s trade period, Geelong figures to be quieter this time around. The key points of business will be to see whether opportunity-starved young players such as <strong>Charlie Constable<\/strong> and <strong>Jordan Clark<\/strong> are able to secure moves away from the club in search of greener pastures. In search of a good big man, the Cats would dearly love to snare Port big man <strong>Peter Ladhams<\/strong> somehow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gold Coast<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 3, 19, 22, 43, 55, 58, 66<\/p>\n<p>Armed with a bevy of bright, young players, the Suns have indicated that they are willing to offload the No.3 pick in exchange for an experienced player that will help contribute to wins in 2022. The futures of <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/afl\/gerard-healy-slams-gold-coast-suns-trade-speculation-ben-king-jack-lukosius-izak-rankine\/1294f742-4412-41fb-bdd7-c89fb59e2c49\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"Ben King\"><strong>Ben King<\/strong><\/a><strong>, Izak Rankine<\/strong> and <strong>Jack Lukosius<\/strong> have been talked about feverishly, but the club is all but certain to retain the trio this summer at least. Talented tigers big man <strong>Mabior Chol<\/strong> is set to join as a free agent.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"0dc7a522-cc26-48ff-867a-456365d70960\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/0dc7a522-cc26-48ff-867a-456365d70960\" alt=\"\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>GWS Giants<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 2, 13, 50, 68<\/p>\n<p>The Giants have an enviable draft slot courtesy of a brilliant trade with Collingwood in last year&#x27;s trade period. GWS football boss Jason McCartney says the club is &quot;comfortable&quot; with its current draft position, and will be able to nab a star. The future of forward <strong>Jeremy Finlayson<\/strong> is also one to watch with a move to South Australia mooted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hawthorn<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 5, 21, 24, 56, 62<\/p>\n<p>After not having a first-round pick for several years, Hawthorn will go back to the well this year and hope to add another talented youngster after picking key defender Denver Grainger-Barras in last year&#x27;s draft. <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/afl\/hawthorn-tom-mitchell-open-to-trade-richmond-carlton\/397bad01-5ec2-4160-829b-efe993e4ab1e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"Tom Mitchell&#x27;s name has been floated in trade rumours\"><strong>Tom Mitchell<\/strong>&#x27;s name has been floated in trade rumours<\/a>, but it would take a godfather offer to see the Brownlow Medallist moved.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"d8c20b00-8edd-4903-b4f3-2764e9970986\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/d8c20b00-8edd-4903-b4f3-2764e9970986\" alt=\"Tom Mitchell\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Melbourne<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 33, 42, 54<\/p>\n<p>The newly-minted premiers are poised to have a quiet off-season and have a core that is poised to contend for years to come. <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/afl\/melbourne-makes-pitch-to-adam-cerra-amid-carlton-trade-links\/3bf15c47-6405-41e5-b8d6-22cd6b91d835\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"Melbourne was interested in adding Cerra\">Melbourne was interested in adding Cerra<\/a>, who was also interested in joining, but was handicapped with what it could offer Fremantle in any potential deal. Fremantle would&#x27;ve asked for WA-native <strong>Luke Jackson<\/strong>, who is untouchable after winning the Rising Star award.<\/p>\n<p><strong>North Melbourne<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 1, 20, 38, 69<\/p>\n<p>The Kangaroos are poised to add to what is becoming a talented young core when it picks <strong>Jason Horne-Francis<\/strong> first overall in November&#x27;s draft. North is also likely to be bolstered by the addition of Richmond young gun <strong>Callum Coleman-Jones<\/strong>. Veteran defender <strong>Robbie Tarrant<\/strong> is set to leave the club as an unrestricted free agent, joining the Tigers.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"fb876dd4-53a8-40d9-bd6d-6522d035e880\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/fb876dd4-53a8-40d9-bd6d-6522d035e880\" alt=\"Jason Horne-Francis\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Port Adelaide<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 16, 60, 70, 71<\/p>\n<p>After Jordan Dawson nominated cross-town rivals Adelaide, Port&#x27;s main point of business will be centered on whether talented big man <strong>Peter Ladhams<\/strong> is traded. Ladhams no longer wants to play second-fiddle to Scott Lycett, but Port will play hardball due to the fact he is contracted. Port has also been linked to both <strong>Jeremy Finlayson<\/strong> and Hawthorn&#x27;s <strong>Tim O&#x27;Brien<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Richmond<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 7, 15, 26, 28, 40, 44<\/p>\n<p>A poor 2021 season could be blessing in disguise for an ageing Tigers group that suddenly has the chance to regenerate its list with some talented youngsters. Losing <strong>Callum Coleman-Jones<\/strong> and <strong>Mabior Chol<\/strong> in the one off-season is a blow of sorts but the club&#x27;s defensive stocks will be bolstered by the addition of <strong>Robbie Tarrant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"5a848774-253f-4f36-be6d-a7df1db7b54e\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/5a848774-253f-4f36-be6d-a7df1db7b54e\" alt=\"Jack Riewoldt and Callum Coleman-Jones\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>St Kilda<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 9, 46, 64<\/p>\n<p>St Kilda is understood to be open to trading contracted defender <strong>Ben Long<\/strong>, who has been linked with Essendon in recent days. It is understood that the Saints are keen on acquiring another early pick in the draft in order to add some young talent to its list after trading away picks in recent years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sydney<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 12, 31, 67<\/p>\n<p>The Swans will be trying their best to <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/afl\/news-2021-sydney-swans-jordan-dawson-adelaide-crows-port-adelaide\/f08a73e8-d2e5-4a9e-9848-619b961805fd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"extract fair trade value for Jordan Dawson\">extract fair trade value for <strong>Jordan Dawson<\/strong><\/a>, who they will be gutted to lose. On a more positive note, another first-round pick coming in could see Sydney combine it with its No.12 to climb up the draft. It would not be a surprise to see the two players flipped for each other with some late picks thrown in.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Western Bulldogs<br \/><\/strong>Picks: 17, 72<\/p>\n<p>After staving off Essendon last year to retain Josh Dunkley, the Bulldogs are reportedly nearing an extension with their No.5. However, they are set to lose some midfield depth with <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/afl\/western-bulldogs-midfielder-pat-lipinski-requests-trade-to-collingwood\/eb3142e9-266b-4396-a3af-3d2f04ff1e11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"Pat Lipinski likely to end up at Collingwood\"><strong>Pat Lipinski<\/strong> likely to end up at Collingwood<\/a>. The Bulldogs are still on the lookout for a lead ruckman, with <strong>Tim English<\/strong> yet to grab the role with two hands. English&#x27;s name has been thrown up in trade rumours but he is highly unlikely to be dealt.
