The truncated Adelaide Test match will play into the hands of the Australian fast bowlers<\/a>, who will be raring to go once again in the Boxing Day Test.<\/p>\n

That's the view of former captain Mark Taylor, who noted that the Australian team spent just 93 overs in the field in Adelaide, only slightly more than a normal day's play.<\/p>\n

With the match finishing inside three days<\/a>, the bowling attack enjoyed an extra two days off before the Melbourne match.<\/p>\n

That extra rest will be invaluable in such a condensed series, with the third Test set to start on January 7<\/a>, followed eight days later by the fourth Test.<\/p>\n

It's a perfect storm for India, and a dream scenario for Australia, the quicks didn't bowl too many overs in Adelaide and they all took wickets," Taylor told Wide World of Sports.<\/p>\n

"The three quicks are in good form and rested, so that's not a good sign for India.<\/p>\n

"The other positive for Australia is they've now blooded Cameron Green, which is great for the balance of the Australian side."<\/p>\n

The other positive for the home side out of the first Test was an unbeaten 51 in the second innings for out of form opener Joe Burns.<\/p>\n

The right-hander had managed just 70 runs in 10 first-class innings prior to that, a run that had many questioning his spot in the side.<\/p>\n

And while the state of the Adelaide game means he's unlikely to score many easier Test match half-centuries, Taylor explained that the time in the middle would have been invaluable.<\/p>\n

"No doubt, a fifty is a fifty, especially when you're struggling, but obviously, he needs to keep scoring runs," he said.<\/p>\n

"If he can make a century on Boxing Day that would silence all the critics, and obviously cement his position for some time.<\/p>\n

"These are the opportunities for people like Burns, Travis Head, even Matthew Wade and Cameron Green. It's a chance to make a sizeable contribution in a big match.<\/p>\n

\"Pat<\/p>\n

Taylor noted that with both David Warner and Will Pucovski sidelined, selectors faced a conundrum later in the series.<\/p>\n

"Warner will definitely return, and I imagine Pucovski will come into consideration at some point as well," the former captain explained.<\/p>\n

"You've got one opener who will certainly come back, and another who probably would have debuted in Adelaide if it wasn't for concussion.<\/p>\n

"There's one, maybe two batsmen who have to be squeezed in very shortly, so the competition is heating up."<\/p>\n
