AFL greats Matthew Lloyd and Kane Cornes have offered a scathing assessment of wantaway Carlton<\/a> youngster Sam Petrevski-Seton ahead of the trade period.<\/p>\n

Petrevski-Seton, a WA native, is seeking a trade back to his home state<\/a>, with the West Coast Eagles firming as his likely home for next season and beyond.<\/p>\n

After being drafted sixth overall in the 2016 draft, Petrevski-Seton has only shown glimpses of his obvious potential, with Carlton shifting him all over the ground.<\/p>\n

While the 23-year-old has a high ceiling, Lloyd said Carlton should not be too concerned with seeing the back of him.<\/p>\n

"I wouldn't be too fazed if I was Carlton, to be honest," he told AFL Trade Radio.<\/p>\n

\"Sam<\/p>\n

"He's another one that I've seen as a junior. Everything he did was good, but he didn't leave his area that often. He did work within a 50-60m radius, whereas you watch Sam Walsh and he's running 150-200m.<\/p>\n

"[Ex-Blues list boss Stephen Silvagni] spoke about him being a forward-midfielder, I look at the forwards and you look at the way [Cody] Weightman plays, [Kysaiah] Pickett plays, Tom Papley plays, they're just dynamic, hard-working forwards.<\/p>\n

"Then you look at the midfielders. Could you imagine Petrevski-Seton going up against [Christian] Petracca and [Clayton] Oliver?<\/p>\n

"Maybe he was messed around a little bit, but I can see why they settled him on a halfback flank because … it's sort of the easiest position to play.<\/p>\n

\"Sam<\/p>\n

"I don't think he competes hard enough and I don't think he's looked as fit as what some AFL players have been.<\/p>\n

"So I can understand why he leaves the club and he looks for a great opportunity, but unless he changes, from what I'm seeing from afar, I don't think it'll change whichever club he goes to. I just don't see an urgency."<\/p>\n

Lloyd's assessment was backed by Cornes, who grilled Petrevski-Seton for his lack of application on the defensive side of the ball.<\/p>\n

"He does not defend," he said. "He has not wanted to defend and you just can't get away with it.<\/p>\n

"Whether you're playing as a forward, a midfielder or a defender, if you don't defend you won't survive in the game.<\/p>\n

\"Adam<\/p>\n

"I can absolutely see why David Teague and Carlton were frustrated with him. A lot of Carlton fans were saying, 'Oh we used a top-ten pick to get him and we're playing him out of position', maybe that was out of desperation because they had sat him down and said, 'This is what we need from you', and he refused to deliver that.<\/p>\n

"He has given up at times this year when the opposition have had the footy.<\/p>\n

"Now, he's 23 years of age and I certainly wouldn't be giving up on him and I think he's a really nice get for West Coast because they don't have anyone in that age bracket between 30 and the age he's at.<\/p>\n

"He's well worth a shot and it's not going to cost a lot to get him, but I think Carlton need a complete reset in terms of the culture at the footy club and if players don't want to buy in when they don't have the footy, they're probably better off being at another club."<\/p>\n
