Nick Kyrgios<\/a> has revealed an injury battle as he flies home to Australia in the hope of getting fit to compete at the Open in Melbourne in January.<\/p>\n

After losing his fifth consecutive singles match – to Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Laver Cup over the weekend – the Canberra product dropped a bombshell in conceding his career as a professional player<\/a> may be coming to an end.<\/p>\n

Kyrgios also revealed his mother is ill and he would finish his 2021 season to return to Australia's capital and spend time with her, before resuming training.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, however, Kyrgios lifted the lid on an injury which he says has been hampering him for some time.<\/p>\n

"Over the last couple months I haven't been near 100 per cent healthy," he wrote in an Instagram story post.<\/p>\n

\"Nick<\/p>\n

"I've been dealing with left knee patella tendonopathy and continuing to play without fully treating it can lead to further pain and greater setbacks.<\/p>\n

"I've chosen to fly back to Australia to reassess and am planning to get PRP treatment to settle down and rehab my knee.<\/p>\n

"I'm disappointed it has kept me from playing my best tennis and hopefully with everything going smoothly I'll be back to 100 per cent by the Australian Open."<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old will be hoping to be fit and firing in time for the Australian Open<\/a> in January.<\/p>\n
