Melbourne<\/a> coach Simon Goodwin<\/a> has given a brilliant response to Basil Zempilas' bizarre grand final<\/a> snub, which saw the Perth lord mayor fail to call him up to the dais for the customary speech.<\/p>\n

It's tradition that every premiership-winning coach makes their way to the dais to deliver a speech, which Goodwin should have been invited to do after the Demons' 74-point defeat of the Western Bulldogs<\/a> in Perth.<\/p>\n

But Zempilas overlooked that step in proceedings, dashing Goodwin's chance to address viewers and listeners after leading Melbourne to their first premiership since 1964.<\/p>\n

"I got shafted, didn't I?" Goodwin joked on Nine's The Sunday Footy Show<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

"I didn't know what happened there, I had it all ready to go, I had the cheat notes and a few sponsors to single out."<\/p>\n

When asked what he would have said, Goodwin gave a shout-out to the thousands of Demons supporters, many of whom are in lockdown.<\/p>\n

"I just would've said to the supporters and everyone at home, this is us, this is who we are and they should be so proud," Goodwin said.<\/p>\n

"Hopefully all the supporters back home are enjoying it. I know they're in lockdown, but speaking to a few I know they're sinking a few beers."<\/p>\n
