Nick Kyrgios dropped a tennis retirement bombshell after the Australian lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Laver Cup<\/a> in Boston.<\/p>\n

Kyrgios, representing Team World against the Europeans, lost 6-3 6-4 in what was his fifth consecutive singles defeat.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old from Canberra then revealed he might never play another Laver Cup, and hinted his time as a professional tennis player could be coming to an end within a couple of years.<\/p>\n

He also revealed he will travel home to Australia to be with his sick mother once this tournament ends.<\/p>\n

"This is my probably my last Laver Cup," Kyrgios said.<\/p>\n

"I don't know how much longer I will be in tennis.<\/p>\n

"This is my last event of the year. I will get my body right ahead of the Aus Open.<\/p>\n

"My mum is not doing too well with her health. I'd like to go back and see her."<\/p>\n

Many professional tennis players can compete on the international tour well into their late 30s and even into their 40s.<\/p>\n

Kyrgios should have at least a decade left by that measure, but he doesn't sound too keen to stick around much longer.<\/p>\n

"As long as I'm on the court, I will try and give my best, but I'm not going to lie and say that I'm going to plan to play four or five more years on tour," he said.<\/p>\n

Also in the Laver Cup, Alexander Zverev was pushed to three tiebreakers by American John Isner in the second match of the day session but ultimately prevailed.<\/p>\n

Germany's Zverev winning 7-6 (7-5) 6-7 (6-8) 10-5 to give Europe a 7-1 points lead.<\/p>\n
