The Australian Diamonds<\/a>' international series against the England Roses has been cancelled due to COVID-19 implications.<\/p>\n

Netball Australia today confirmed that the closure of the trans-Tasman travel bubble provided too many hurdles for both parties to overcome.<\/p>\n

While dates for the proposed series weren't finalised, the Roses had recently completed 14-day hotel quarantine in Christchurch ahead of their series with New Zealand.<\/p>\n

It's understood England's squad was planning to travel to Australia through the trans-Tasman travel bubble, but due to its closure on August 31, those plans weren't able to go ahead.<\/p>\n

The Roses are now expected to return home in the coming days.<\/p>\n

"We are incredibly disappointed that this series will not go ahead," said Netball Australia CEO Kelly Ryan.<\/p>\n

"We thank Netball England, Netball New Zealand and the state and federal governments for their support and unwavering commitment to play this series.<\/p>\n

"The evolving COVID-19 restrictions meant that the Roses would have completed two quarantine periods during the series, which has significant impacts on health and wellbeing and performance.<\/p>\n

"I am proud of Diamonds head coach Stacey Marinkovich and our athletes and staff for their commitment, resilience and understanding during these uncertain times.<\/p>\n

"This program wouldn't be possible without our fantastic partners who continue to stand by us as we navigate elite sport during a global pandemic, including naming rights partner Origin Energy and major partners Nissan, Suncorp and Woolworths.<\/p>\n

"The Origin Australian Diamonds will make the most of their two-week training camp on the Sunshine Coast, with match-play and fan engagement opportunities to be worked through in the coming days."<\/p>\n
