The Richmond Tigers have blasted the hundreds of protesters who hijacked Melbourne's most famous war memorial yesterday afternoon<\/a>, the Shrine of Remembrance.<\/p>\n

Protesters in Victoria fighting to scrap mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations for the construction industry<\/a> took their message to the war memorial, chanting "sacred ground" and "lest we forget".<\/p>\n

Shrine of Remembrance CEO Dean Lee described the protest as "very, very troubling."<\/p>\n

Now the Tigers have hit out, declaring they're "disgusted" by the behaviour of the protesters.<\/p>\n

"The Shrine of Remembrance partners the Richmond and Melbourne football clubs in the delivery of the annual Anzac Eve game," the Tigers wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n

"The club is disgusted that today's protest was staged at such a sacred place and those involved should be ashamed of their behaviour.<\/p>\n

"The Shrine is an important place of reflection and education and should be treated with the respect it deserves."<\/p>\n

Richmond's tweet found support from other AFL clubs.<\/p>\n

The Melbourne Demons replied to the tweet with: "The Shrine stands as a symbol of respect for the service and sacrifice of Australians and should always be treated as such."<\/p>\n

It's understood more than 400 protesters attended the rally at the Shrine of Remembrance.<\/p>\n
