Australian basketball star Dante Exum has been rewarded for his stellar form at the Tokyo Olympics<\/a>, earning a new deal with the Houston Rockets.<\/p>\n

Last season Exum only played 24 games due to injury, but he was fit in time for the Tokyo Games where he played a key role for the Boomers in their historic bronze medal run<\/a>, averaging 9 points and 2.8 assists a game.<\/p>\n

Exum's NBA career began in Utah when he was selected as the 5th overall pick in the 2014 draft. Although he played all 82 games in his first season in the NBA, injuries eventually hampered his time there and at the end of 2019 he was traded to Cleveland.<\/p>\n

Then in January this year Exum was traded again to Houston from the Cavaliers, but he is yet to play a game for the Rockets.<\/p>\n

With his NBA future in doubt before the Olympics, his performance in Tokyo is believed to have convinced the Rockets he was worth re-signing.<\/p>\n

According to Rockets Wire<\/em>, Exum's contract is heavily incentive-based but could be worth up to $US15 million ($A20.6m) over three seasons, with each year non-guaranteed.<\/p>\n

Exum wasn't the only Boomer to see their Olympics appearance help seal an NBA deal with Aussie legend Patty Mills inking a contract with the Brooklyn Nets to play alongside Kevin Durant<\/a> this season, and Jock Landale landing a multi-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs.<\/a><\/p>\n
