Ex-Knights<\/a> winger James McManus<\/a>' four-year court battle with his former club has ended, with a court ruling in favour of Newcastle.<\/p>\n

McManus had been pursuing a seven-figure payout in regards to both lost earnings and compensation<\/a> for the after-effects he claimed to suffer from concussions during his career.<\/p>\n

"The claim brought by James McManus against the Newcastle Knights, which was managed by the NRL, has been finalised with the NSW Supreme Court ordering judgment for the Knights," the NRL said in a statement.<\/p>\n

"The NRL is pleased that this long-running matter has been resolved in the Knights' favour.<\/p>\n

"The NRL was confident in its defence of the claim under the Civil Liability Act and we are pleased that the matter could be resolved without further cost and expense for all parties."<\/p>\n

McManus played more than 150 games for Newcastle and represented the Blues three times, before hanging up the boots due to concussion concerns.<\/p>\n

He was 30 when he walked away from the game.<\/p>\n

"It is obviously a difficult decision but a decision I made for my young family," McManus said in 2016.<\/p>\n

"I could never have dreamed that when I moved from the Northern Territory to Newcastle that I would have got to play one game, let alone playing the game I love, for 10 years.<\/p>\n

"I am very privileged to have played my whole career at the one club and I am very honoured to have worn the Newcastle Knights jersey."<\/p>\n
