Rugby league great Brad Fittler says Lachlan Lewis may have no choice but to head overseas or play at Queensland Cup level if he's to continue playing rugby league.<\/p>\n

Lewis' contract with the Canterbury Bulldogs was officially torn up earlier this week<\/a> after he allegedly stole property belonging to the club and attempted to sell it on eBay<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old halfback, who was off-contract at the end of this year, played just 43 games for the club, including six this season, after debuting back in 2018.<\/p>\n

Rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns said he would be surprised if the nephew of the legendary Wally Lewis had any idea of how his future might look going forward.<\/p>\n

"I wouldn't have a clue and I don't think he has a clue either," Johns told Wide World of Sports' Freddy and The Eighth<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Fittler agreed although admitted he was a fan of some of Lewis' attributes. The NSW coach said it was surprising that a playmnaker of Lewis' talent was unable to hold down a spot in a team that's been one one of the poorest performers in the NRL throughout his career.<\/p>\n

"I'm backing Joey, I haven't got any idea," Fittler added.<\/p>\n

"I really like how he plays sometimes… the fact is the club only won three games this year.<\/p>\n

\"Freddy<\/p>\n

"In the last two years, there's been not many more.<\/p>\n

"He hasn't been able to cement a position in that time, in a team that's won that minimal (amount) of games.<\/p>\n

"Whether it's England or whether it's back to Queensland… I like some of his footy, there are some things he does really well in the game."<\/p>\n
