The Canterbury Bulldogs have torn up halfback Lachlan Lewis' contact after he allegedly took property belonging to the club and attempted to sell it on eBay<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old halfback was stood down for the final two matches of the home and away season after the incident, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.<\/p>\n

Canterbury's decision was officially announced on Tuesday night, ending Lewis' 43-game tenure with the club across four seasons.<\/p>\n

"After issuing Lachlan a breach notice and following due process regarding his response, the club has decided to part ways with Lachlan, effective immediately," Bulldogs CEO Aaron Warburton said in a statement.<\/p>\n

"The club is committed to supporting Lachlan during this time and we wish him all the best for the future."<\/p>\n

The decision to part ways with Lewis comes after Canterbury recently released Adam Elliott from the final two years of his own deal following an off-field controversy<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The pair of controversies involving Lewis and Elliott came at the tail end of a dismal on-field season for the Bulldogs, who finished with the wooden spoon after just three wins.<\/p>\n

Lewis is among a list of ten Bulldogs that have not been offered a deal for 2022<\/a>, a list which includes ex-Origin duo Will Hopoate and Dylan Napa.<\/p>\n
