Newcastle<\/a>'s handling of a Tyson Frizell<\/a> head knock has left the rugby league world astounded, after the back-rower initially remained on the field and later returned despite distressing scenes.<\/p>\n

Frizell was hit in the head by Reagan Campbell-Gillard<\/a>'s left hip as he tried to tackle the Parramatta<\/a> front-rower in the ninth minute of the Knights' elimination final clash with the Eels<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As the NSW<\/a> and Test<\/a> front-rower underwent an on-field head injury assessment with a Knights medico, Eels legend Peter Sterling<\/a> predicted a grim outcome.<\/p>\n

"I wouldn't imagine Tyson is coming back," Sterling said on Nine's coverage.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Panthers<\/a> and Roosters<\/a> great Brad Fittler<\/a> replied: "No, once you move like that …"<\/p>\n

"He shows real effect," Sterling said.<\/p>\n

Fittler added: "They're the signs that they say you're not coming back.<\/p>\n

"He got himself in an awkward position there, coming from a funny angle … That should have been a left-shoulder tackle.<\/p>\n

"The movement once he gets up and staggers around \u2013 they're the signs."<\/p>\n

Despite the worrying scenes, Frizell remained on the field for about another minute, until he left play following an Eels try.<\/p>\n

Nine's commentators again expressed their bewilderment at the Knights' handling of the situation when Frizell returned to the field in the 22nd minute.<\/p>\n

"I am surprised Tyson Frizell (is) back in the action," Sterling said.<\/p>\n

Caller Mat Thompson added: "A curious decision based on what we saw there."<\/p>\n
